The journey to jellbeing, where ancient wisdom meets modern science. There’s a quiet revolution happening. More of us are turning inward. Slowing down. Listening deeply. We’re no longer chasing well-being like a finish line anymore; we’re learning to live it. And maybe, just maybe, the old sages knew something science is now confirming.
The science of stillness is the secret. Seneca, the Stoic philosopher, was renowned for his inner calm and believed that well-being had nothing to do with external luxuries. We are seeing this today in society. As a designer, I worked with some wealthy clients, but while they enjoyed their material advantages, some of them faced unique challenges that impacted their well-being. Back to Seneca, for him, it was a matter of spiritual clarity. As he wrote, “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste much of it.” He saw time, presence, and peace of mind as the ultimate wealth. I’m not sure if the modern materialistic society would agree with him here. The journey to well-being.
Now, Neuroscience echoes Seneca’s quiet wisdom. According to research, only ten minutes of focused breathing per day can significantly reduce cortisol levels in high-achieving individuals, especially those experiencing burnout. Another study linked regular reflection (journaling and inner dialogue) with greater emotional resilience for long-term well-being.
It’s not just about what we do—it’s how and why we do it.
Science now confirms what ancient wisdom has long held to be true. Slowing down helps us think more clearly, feel more deeply, and connect better with others and with ourselves.
I didn’t choose this path, I was thrown onto it.
After losing my husband unexpectedly, everything I thought I knew about life, success, and even well-being was shattered. But in the silence of that sorrow, I heard something ancient. Not a scream. Not a solution. A whisper:
“Come back to yourself.” At that moment, I felt stillness.
The Grief stripped me bare. It taught me presence, not through meditation, but through mourning. It forced me to listen to my body, honour my emotions, and redefine what strength really means. I have become wiser through this hardship. Science agrees that post-traumatic growth is REAL. But only if we walk through it AWAKE. The journey to well-being.
Grief deepened my true well-being. And now I walk beside others who are ready to rise from their own ashes.
The dance between adversity and joy. Premeditatio malorum is a Stoic practice of mentally preparing for potential adverse events such as setbacks, losses and difficulties, allowing us to mentally rehearse how to cope with these events and build resilience. Today’s scientists refer to this practice as stress inoculation. It’s the same idea but not many practice this. When we meet our challenges mindfully, we create inner strength. Pain doesn’t disappear, but we learn to hold it with grace.
The Dance Between Adversity and Joy captures something profound about how these seemingly opposite experiences interweave throughout our lives. It’s a complex choreography. Adversity often deepens our capacity for pleasure. The person who has known real hardship frequently experiences gratitude and delight more intensely than someone who has lived an easier life.
Difficulty makes us more attuned to beauty, connection, and simple pleasures we might otherwise take for granted. Joy, meanwhile, can provide the resilience we need to face adversity. Those moments of connection, wonder, or contentment become anchors we can return to during difficult times. They remind us that life contains multitudes, that our current struggle is not the whole story.
Sometimes, adversity and joy alternate in clear sequences, periods of challenge followed by relief and celebration. When my husband passed away, it was only a couple of weeks before my son’s eighteenth birthday. At other times, timing and rythym coexist, as when finding moments of laughter amidst grief or feeling deep gratitude even while going through hardship.
What’s intriguing is that they can transform each other. Adversity can crack us open in ways that allow for more profound joy, while joy can give us the courage to face challenges we might otherwise avoid. Neither erases the other, but each can change how we experience and integrate the other.
The dance suggests that rather than trying to maximise joy and minimise adversity, there might be wisdom in learning to move fluidly between them, to see adversity as training for the soul and finding meaning.
It’s not a straight line. It’s a spiral. One can revisit the same lessons repeatedly, gaining a deeper understanding each time.
Here’s a gentle path forward:
We suffer more in imagination than in reality. ~ Seneca

In a world that constantly celebrates hustle, accolades, and achievements, it’s easy to fall into the trap of defining success by external standards such as a seven-figure business, a full calendar, or the perfect instagram-worthy life. Redefine success without burning out is a holistic approach for high-achieving women ready to thrive. But what if true success isn’t about how much you do, but how deeply aligned you feel while doing it? As a well-being expert who supports successful women through significant life transitions, I’ve seen firsthand in my own transformation how powerful and liberating it can be to redefine success as a holistic approach to thrive on your own terms, and science backs this up.
The longest-running study on human happiness—reveals a surprising truth, it’s not wealth or achievement that brings lasting success. It’s the quality of our relationships, our emotional well-being, and the sense of meaning in our lives that determine how fulfilled we feel each day. This means success isn’t just about what we do, but also how our achievements make us feel, how well they align with our values, and how they nurture our overall well-being mentally, emotionally, spiritually and more. Redefine success for high-achieving women.
Redefining success is a holistic approach for high-achieving women ready to thrive without the burn out. For many high-achieving women, success comes with a price such as chronic stress, invisible grief, emotional depletion, or a deep sense of “Is this all there is?” Redefine success for high-achieving women.
You may have:
This disconnection isn’t a failure but it’s a sign you’ve outgrown a definition of success that was never truly yours. Redefine success for high-achieving women.
True success is holistic. It honours your unique rhythm, values, and your lived experience. What energises one woman may drain another. That’s why there is no one-size-fits-all blueprint. My coaching is tailored to your needs and wants for where you are in your life right now.
Some women thrive with structured goals and milestones. Others flourish when they follow intuition, rest cycles, and creative flow. One woman’s success might be building a global business, another’s might be finally having the courage to slow down and heal.
Redefining success is a holistic approach for high-achieving women ready to thrive without burn out. When we redefine success holistically, we begin to ask more profound questions:
Here’s how I start aligning my own success with my well-being:
Where did your version of success come from? Culture, family, mentors? Pause and ask: Is this truly mine?
What makes you feel grounded, joyful, and alive? Consider your relationships, health, creativity, and purpose. Let those be part of your success metrics and not societal expectation.
Rest is underappreciated in our modern society. Rest isn’t the opposite of productivity nor it’s what allows it to be sustainable. Prioritising well-being is not a luxury—it’s empowerment and a leadership decision.
What boundaries protect your energy and peace? What practices can take you back to yourself?
I believe these are essential to any empowered woman’s definition of success.
Success isn’t just about reaching a destination, it’s about how you feel along the journey. And if you’ve been doing all the right things but still feel unfulfilled inside, that’s your intuition whispering: “There’s another way, a holistic way to thrive”. You don’t need to burn out to be brilliant. You don’t have to sacrifice your soul to be successful. You’re allowed to Rebuild. To Rise. To Redefine what thriving looks and feels like for you. And I’m here to remind you that, the most successful life is the one that feels like yours.
Let’s rewrite what success means for you. Not by doing more, but by becoming more of who you truly are. If you’re reading this blog you’re a successful woman ready to rise above burnout, grief, or a life that no longer suits you, I invite you rewrite your new story, and redefine your success, where your well-being and values lead the way. Losing touch with yourself is easy in a world that praises productivity and performance. You tick the boxes, reach the milestones, and life looks like a success story from the outside.
Whist inside? Something feels… off.
There’s a quiet restlessness. A subtle burnout.
You were meant for more being. That’s where alignment with self comes in. It’s not a buzzword. It’s a lifeline. Let’s explore what it really means — and how to find your way back to you. How to align with your true self.
Your thoughts, emotions, values, and actions point in the same direction. It’s showing up as who you are. There are no masks, no performing and there is just you, fully expressed and deeply rooted, and you feel comfortable.
This is how you know you’re aligned, something I know too well:
1. Pause the Noise
The world is loud. Your inner voice can get lost between social media, expectations, and endless to-do lists.
Take intentional pauses — daily moments of silence, breathwork, or journaling. Create space for your soul to speak.
Your intuition can’t compete with constant noise. It needs to be quiet to be heard.
2. Ask the Right Questions
Sometimes we live years on autopilot without questioning:
“Is this right for me?”
“Am I living in alignment with my values?”
“What do I truly want now?”
You can change. Alignment means permitting yourself to evolve.
3. Notice Where You’re Out of Sync
Start with gentle awareness. Where in your life do you feel resistance or fatigue?
Often, misalignment shows up as:
These are signs — not failures. They’re invitations to realign.
4. Reconnect With What Matters
Alignment is deeply personal. It starts with clarity about your values, priorities, and desires.
Ask yourself:
Create a vision for your life and business that reflects the real you, not the version you created to survive or impress.
5. Live in Integrity With Your Truth
Once you’re clear on who you are, act from that place daily.
That means setting boundaries.
Saying no more often to protects your peace.
Choosing rest without guilt.
Creating a life and business that reflects your truth, not just your talents.
Your magnetic, powerful self is fully aligned with your truth.
Are you feeling the nudge? Pay attention
It’s not a breakdown — it’s a breakthrough.
You’re not losing your way. You’re shedding what no longer suits you.
The most successful version of you isn’t the busiest.
She’s the most aligned.

We’re often told to “know ourselves” — to dig deep, assess our abilities, understand our personality traits, and evaluate our skills. The idea is that by doing this, we’ll truly understand who we are. But is that enough? A journey to self-discovery begins with self-awareness.
Whenever we evaluate ourselves, we measure against some standard. Whether that’s an official benchmark like exam grades, a personal goal we’ve set, or even an expectation someone else has for us. Your standards can be pretty focused or more open-ended. For example, a narrow standard might aim to pass your driving test after falling short the first time. A journey of self discovery begins with awareness. On the other hand, a broader standard could be less defined, like striving to become more patient and tolerant. Both approaches have value, but you have to know what works best for you.
To get you started, here are some simple evaluation you can start with to unlock your true self
Life Fulfilment: If life isn’t heading in the direction you want. It might be time for a broader look at what’s going wrong. By pinpointing where the discontent is coming from, you’ll have a more straightforward path to making things right. Explore my coaching programmes to get you statrted on your journey of self-discovery.
Health: Too often, we neglect our health, but keeping track of our health and well-being is key. If you’ve ignored minor issues, now’s the time to address them. Also, pay attention to your sleep patterns and nutrition—both can give clues about your feelings on a daily basis.
Happiness: When was the last time you truly felt happy and at peace with yourself? We all fall into habits that don’t serve us but understanding what truly brings joy can help to shift your focus to the things that matter most, light you up and energise you.
Career: Evaluating how things are going at work can illuminate our goals, strengths, and areas for improvement. Understanding these will help us grow and move forward with more clarity and focus.
Relationships: It’s easy to let a relationship drag on simply because the thought of ending it feels too overwhelming. But assessing what you truly want and need from a relationship can be a game changer, in both a romantic and a friendship. This can help you either improve the relationship you’re in or guide you to a future one that better suits you.
Finances: If you have big plans, like retiring early or getting on the property ladder, evaluating your finances can be eye-opening. Look for any overspending and check if your savings and investments are truly working for you.
Ethics: This can be a difficult one for many, but a good place to start is by reflecting on situations where you felt proud and at peace with the outcome. When you analyse those moments, you’ll uncover the core values that guide you — a solid foundation for your ethical approach to life.
Implicit Bias: The first thing is to acknowledge your own biases and educate yourself with a reading list or join a discussion group to do better. To dive deeper I will be writing more about this later on in the year.
At this point, I know you might be wondering why am I discussing these things. As aa aligned mindset and well-being strategist designer Total Well-being is multidimensional, we need all of the above and more to have a meaningful and a fulfilled life.
It can feel overwhelming to know where to start with self-evaluation. But don’t worry — I’ve got some questions to help you delve a little deeper and get to know yourself better. Self awareness is a journey of self-discovery.
-What do I need most right now?
-Are my goals for the future achievable?
-Is my life in alignment with my values?
-Can I change my old habits to have most significant impact on my life?
Alongside these questions, journaling is a powerful tool for reflecting on where you are and where you wish to be. I’ve been journaling intermittently since my teens, and has been a constant part of my life for past twenty years. My style of journaling is spiritual, but you get to choose yours. If you haven’t started yet, I encourage you to begin journaling — it’s truly life-changing.
Taking time for self-reflection is an excellent way to check in with yourself, and identify areas that need adjustment. I do this about twice a year. You too can adopt this practice and witness how it transforms your life. You can apply to work with me.

Life is an exciting journey of growth and change, filled with opportunities that encourage us to explore who we truly are. While challenges may arise, they often serve as catalysts for reinvention, prompting us to seek deeper meaning in our lives. Transformation isn’t about leaving our past behind; it’s about weaving our experiences into the fabric of who we are, aligning our thoughts and values, and consciously designing the future we desire. When you discover your purpose and create the life you desire.
Life is a constant evolution, and sometimes adversity forces us to realign our mindset and intentionally shape the future as we want it
As the insightful Viktor Frankl once said, “Those who have a ‘why’ to live can bear almost any ‘how.’” Seeking meaning is fundamental to our lives, and yet it can sometimes feel elusive, especially during tough times. Jordan Peterson, a prominent advocate for personal growth, highlights that meaning isn’t something we stumble upon; it’s something we actively create through embracing responsibility and discipline and by contributing positively to the world around us.
Here are some wonderful ways to nurture meaning in your life:
Reinvention is a beautiful process that’s less about changing your core identity and more about evolving into your best self. The ability to embrace reinvention is a powerful tool that helped me to rise from my challenges, rediscover what I love, and reconnect with my purpose.
Steps to Embrace Reinvention
Remember, the future isn’t something that happens to you; it’s something you actively create! Aligning your thoughts with a vivid vision of the future you aspire to achieve requires self-awareness, bravery, and thoughtful planning.
Ways to Design Your Dream Future
At the centre of all transformation is an aligned mindset—where your thoughts, feelings, and actions dance together harmoniously towards your goals. Developing this mindset involves heartfelt self-reflection, a commitment to continual learning, and a strong belief that you have the power to initiate change.
When your mindset is in sync with meaningful intentions, personal reinvention, and purposeful actions, you unlock an extraordinary realm of possibilities. Remember, your past does not define you; it is your choices that paint your story. Embrace the journey and stride confidently toward the future you dream of, becoming the person you are meant to be.
Final Thoughts: Your future is a blank canvas, waiting for your creativity. What masterpiece do you envision crafting?
